Great School of Magic Curriculum


First Year 

  • The student must pass the entrance exam (see Test of Darkness adventure).
  • The student must learn and demonstrate ability to cast Read Magic. 
  • The student must learn and demonstrate ability to cast either Prestidigitation or Detect Magic and two more 0 level spell of their choice.
  • The student must learn and demonstrate ability to cast two first level spells in order to earn their First Year Certificate (A-Level Certificate).

Second Year

  • The student must develop a unique spell.
  • The student must demonstrate mastery of three first level spells.
  • The student must pass the "Society Exam", which tests their knowledge of Glantrian society, government, and law [(Knowledge/History DC 10), (Knowledge/Local DC 10) and (Knowledge/Nobility DC 10)] to earn their Second Year Certificate (B-Level Certificate).

Third Year

  • The student must demonstrate mastery of two second level spells.
  • The student must pass a magical lore exam (Knowledge/Arcana DC 18 skill test). This earns them a Third Year Certificate (C-Level Certificate).

Fourth Year

  • The student must demonstrate mastery of two third level spells. 
  • The student must pass a practical magical theory exam (Spellcraft DC 20 skill test). This earns them a Fourth Year Certificate (D-Level Certificate).

Fifth Year

  • The student must demonstrate mastery of two fourth level spells. 
  • The student must pass a practical magical theory exam (Spellcraft DC 22 skill test). This earns them a Fifth Year Certificate (D-Level Certificate).

Gentleman's Degree

  • The student must demonstrate mastery of two fifth level spells. This earns them a Graduation Test Ticket. Possession of such enables him to take the Graduation Test. If they pass, they gain a Gentleman's Degree (GD), and may now call himself a Gentleman and qualify to eventually become a Glantrian noble
